How to Redefine Your Workspace for Maximum Efficiency
Is Your Cluttered Workspace Draining Your Productivity?
Does your workspace inspire productivity—or hold you back? At Bounaspace, we believe that a well-designed space can do wonders for your creativity and efficiency. Today, I’d like to share some personal stories that shaped the philosophy behind our brand and its mission to redefine workspaces.
Experience 1: Turning a Dim Atmosphere into a Bright Space
In 2010, during my graduate studies, I found myself in a lab that was anything but inspiring. The space was dim, cluttered, and filled with tangled cables and equipment. Shelves blocked the windows, casting shadows and creating a gloomy environment. The central area was obstructed, making communication with colleagues about our research unnecessarily difficult. Desks were awkwardly placed among large pieces of equipment, blurring the lines between experimental, study, and communication spaces.
Determined to address these issues, I set three clear goals for improving the workspace
1. Create a space that supports both experiments and communication—it’s not just a place for routine tasks.
2. Maximize natural light to brighten the environment and make it more welcoming.
3. Conceal clutter like cables and accessories to maintain a clean, unified look.

My colleagues and I agreed on these goals and began making changes. First, we focused on maximizing sunlight. Tall shelves, nearly 2 meters high, were moved from the windows to the side walls, allowing sunlight to flood the space. This simple change brightened the entire lab and gave it a more open and uplifting atmosphere.
Next, we addressed the need for a dedicated communication zone. Previously, collaboration happened outside the lab, at individual desks, or via messaging—none of which were ideal. By relocating shelves to the right side, we freed up enough space to create a central area for meetings, discussions, and study sessions. Desks were repositioned along the lower and left walls, making better use of the available space.
Finally, we tackled the issue of clutter and outdated furniture. The previous desks, over 20 years old, were mismatched and inefficient. We replaced them with modern desks featuring sleek metal frames, which created a more open feel. Cables were neatly organized using raceways and covers to hide them from view.
These changes transformed the lab into a well-organized space with three distinct zones: an experimental area on the right, a central communication hub, and individual study spaces along the walls. It became a brighter, more productive environment that supported both teamwork and individual focus.

Experience 2: Redesigning an Office for Efficiency and Collaboration
Years later, I encountered similar challenges in a corporate office setting. Our team had grown significantly, and the existing layout no longer met our needs. Desks were poorly arranged, and the lack of a dedicated meeting area made it difficult to collaborate effectively.
To begin the redesign, we identified two key goals:
1. Create a central meeting space for quick discussions and presentations.
2. Ensure personal privacy while enabling seamless communication among sub-teams working on similar tasks.
Solutions and Results
First, we tackled the need for a meeting space. Inspired by my earlier experience, we arranged desks in a U-shape, leaving the center open for discussions. A screen was installed for quick presentations, reducing the reliance on booked meeting rooms. This setup provided a convenient and accessible solution for team collaboration.
Next, we focused on balancing privacy and communication. Desks were grouped face-to-face within sub-teams to encourage interaction. To address concerns about openness, we installed partitions between desks. Instead of standard dividers, we used thicker, hollow partitions that could house cables and serve as decorative elements. These unique dividers enhanced both functionality and aesthetics, providing privacy without isolating team members.
This redesign transformed the office into a more dynamic and efficient workspace, allowing our growing team to collaborate effectively while maintaining individual focus.
